Meet the Faculty

Michael L. Fassler

Principal consultant Mike Fassler provides family business planning services with a focus on helping his clients grow their relationships, capabilities, and capital. Mike has been serving family businesses since 1984 across industries and internationally. Mike helps families develop and implement plans and decisions for succession, governance, and strategy. Core to Mike’s work is working with families to achieve alignment on their plans for the future, and to decide how best to work together in a way which safeguards family relationships and the economic viability of the family’s enterprise.

Mike serves on the board of The Family Business Consulting Group, is Vice-Chair, Chair of the Finance & Compensation Committee, and served as the Vice-Chair of the Leadership Continuity Committee. Mike serves as an independent director on the board of Mno-Bmadsen, the non-gaming investment arm of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, is Chair of the Dividend Policy Committee and is on the Audit Committee. Additionally, Mike serves on the advisory board of FloSonix, a medical device start-up.

Kelly LeCouvie, Ph.D.

Kelly is a senior consultant with The Family Business Consulting Group. She works primarily in two areas of governance: corporate governance, which includes the development and assessment of corporate boards, and family governance, which includes the development of structures within the family that facilitate effective and sustainable decision making across generations. She has worked with clients in multiple industries based in North and South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Caribbean.

Kelly has worked in an advisory capacity with her family’s 65-year-old logistics company, and has personally experienced the joys and challenges of family members working together. As a faculty member at the Schulich School of Business, York University, Kelly teaches strategy. She also is the author and co-author of three books, two on family business.
