Keynote Conversation with Vesla Hoeschen, Board Chairperson & G4 Family Member of Bemis Manufacturing Company
We are pleased to announce that Vesla Hoeschen will kick-off our program by sharing her journey as a fourth-generation family leader of Bemis Manufacturing Company, a global injection-molder headquartered in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.
Velsa held a number of roles during her 30-year career with Bemis including founding and leading the family council then serving as a family director on the board. In 2021, she was elected as board chairperson and is the first female chair in the company's 122-year history. We look forward to learning from Vesla on how Bemis achieves effective governance while harnessing the value of their family.
Module 1: Best Practices of High-Performing Boards
We’ll kick off our session getting to know each other and launch a discussion with a family business that has invested in effective governance to hear their successes, challenges and lessons learned. From there, we’ll discuss the best practices of high-performing family business boards and how they function in the family business environment.
Module 2: You as a Family Director
Many family directors can find it challenging to understand how they can best contribute at the board level. This session will focus on the unique role that family directors play in the board room. Through a confidential self-assessment, participants will identify their current strengths and learn how directors build new competencies over time.

Module 3: Growing Your Impact
We’ll continue last week’s discussion with additional focus on competency development and how to prioritize your learning based on the unique needs of your family business. From there, we’ll dive into discussions about the real-world challenges and opportunities the participants see in their board rooms and help participants develop insights on how to lead from their board seat.
Module 4: Unique Tensions and Opportunities of Family Boards
Our final session will address some of the most challenging and powerful ways that family directors contribute to the company’s success & continuity with discussions of common family board room dynamics.
